The Nintendo 3DS has been making the headlines for its 3D capabilities. Some people have expressed their admiration for the platform's new functions while others have been quick to dismiss it as a gimmick with no lasting qualities.
With the first ever handheld device to sport peripheral-less 3D technology, it was almost safe to assume that Nintendo would eventually bring the technology to their next generation of home consoles—like the as-yet-unannounced Wii 2.
Speaking to CNN, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime shot down the possibility of that happening.
"We've not said publicly what the next thing for us will be in the home console space, but based on what we've learned on 3-D, likely, that won't be it," he said.
It's difficult to say what Nintendo plans to do at this point, but let's hope they don't plan to keep us in surprise for much longer.
