Batman: Arkham Origins Multiplayer Trailer Released

July 31, 2013 by Stephen Daly

Online component being developed by Splash Damage.

Batman: Arkham Origins' multiplayer has been detailed in a new trailer which you can see, above, courtesy of Official Xbox Magazine.

The game's online component is not being produced by Warner Bros. Montreal, which is making the game's single player, but is instead coming from Splash Damage, the developer of Brink and Enemy Territories: Quake Wars.

Origins' multiplayer mode will see rival gangs, including the Joker and his henchmen, vie for control of Gotham in three-vs-three encounters but in a twist there'll be a third team consisting of two members – Batman and Robin.

The single player campaign takes place over the course of Christmas Eve and sees Batman assailed by eight assassins during the night. The game is a prequel to Rocksteady's Arkham Asylum and Arkham City.

Batman: Arkham Origins is set for release on the 25th of October for PS3, Xbox 360, Wii U and PC. Arkham Origins: Blacklight, a spin-off, will also be released on the same day for PS Vita and Nintendo 3DS.

Splash Damage's Alastair Cornish explained the decision to choose the developer telling Videogamer "[Warner Bros.] were looking for a partner to develop the game independently from Warner Montreal as some of the concerns about adding a multiplayer mode to a traditionally single-player franchise is that one takes away from the other. But having two separate teams developing them in parallel you kind of avoid that, especially as Splash Damage are multiplayer specialists."

He said multiplayer will add to the experience, "None of us had any interest in doing a bolt-on, 'me too' deathmatch. It had to be uniquely Arkham and gameplay you couldn't get anywhere else."
