Instead of receiving an additional multiplayer skin or new weapon in the campaign, the PlayStation 3 and PlayStation 4 versions of Assassin’s Creed 4: Black Flag will include an entire hour of new, exclusive content. Since just claiming these side missions last an hour is a little difficult to justify, Ubisoft has come out to detail exactly what Sony fans will be getting when they purchase either a current or next-generation product later this fall.
If you’re a fan of the Vita’s Assassin’s Creed 3: Liberation, the return of female protagonist Aveline de Grandpré in this DLC should come as some good news. Lead writer Darby McDevitt recently posted in the Ubisoft blog that players will be introduced to an older Aveline this time around.
"It's a ways forward so Aveline is a bit older. It's not directly related to the end of her story. If Assassin's Creed IV is like a novel, Aveline's missions are like a short story,” McDevitt said. “The present-day is set in Abstergo Entertainment – which is this fun, hip company to work for… at first. You are able to access the Aveline stuff because your coworkers are working on retrieving different genetic memories from all kinds of different people."
This additional hour isn’t included in the 15 to 20 hours you can expect from the main story of Black Flag, which launches on current-gen platforms in October and next-gen consoles soon after. Assassin’s Creed isn’t the only Ubisoft game getting Sony love, either, as Watch Dogs will also see an additional hour of PlayStation-exclusive content.
