The Assassin’s Creed series is a staple franchise for Ubisoft, but the game IP won’t see a new installment in 2019. That means this upcoming release slated for next week will have to hold you over for quite some time. Of course, that also means Ubisoft had to make an in-depth video game to keep players interest until their next major installment. This resulted in a more heavily focused RPG experience for Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey which you can view the official launch trailer above.
After being officially revealed at E3 2018, Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey may be one of the most in-depth titles from the franchise. The game takes place during a fictional Peloponnesian War in Greece where players take on the role of either Alexios or Kassandra, both will be a mercenary and descendant of the Spartan king, Leonidas I. Of course, outside of being a historical time period peace, players will have plenty of areas to explore while taking on quests.
As mentioned, Ubisoft has placed more of an RPG element into the game than previous Assassin’s Creed installments. For instance, there are not only aspects you can upgrade along with dialogue choices. In fact, it seems that your choices will make a difference within the game which ultimately means you’ll have some replay value once you complete the game.
Despite this being a game that will have to hold you through 2019, Ubisoft does have some post-launch content planned for Assassin’s Creed: Odyssey that should hopefully keep you entertained. For instance, Ubisoft will launch the story-based DLC known as Legacy of the First Blade which goes over the history behind the hidden blade used by the Assassins throughout the franchise.
Assassins Creed Odyssey is set to release for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC on October 5th.
