Most people will easily agree that Michael Jordan remains the best basketball player of all time. A discussion involving Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul Jabbar will happen amongst more knowledgeable basketball fans, but generally people will pick Michael Jordan.
For NBA 2K14, Ben Sin from Sports Illustrated looks at LeBron James and how his player rating progression from game to game might lead to ratings in triple digits.
In the 2005-2006 season when James shot for a lousy 34% from three-point range, his overall player rating clocked in 98. Even last year, with the improvements from long-range and mid-range jump shots, James still shot 36% from three point range but still received a 77 three-point rating.
So as of now, LeBron James sits an overall 98 rating when every year his statistics continue to improve from his 2005-2006 season in which NBA 2K7 rated him 98 overall. When considering his year by year progression, Ben Sin projected that statistics such as his low block rating, which came in at 84 in 2006, should hover around 130 for NBA 2K14.
In NBA Live 2000, Michael Jordan returned to basketball video games after a long time disappearance. His rating for his return put him in the 106 to 109 range.
Considering his improving statistics, this year we might see The King surpass or at least match the 99 overall rating of Michael Jordan in NBA 2K14.
