Resident Evil Revelations 1 & 2 NYCC Nintendo Switch First-Impressions: The Horror Genre on the Go

October 6, 2017 by Jordan Biazzo

These two titles were made for handheld devices!

Resident Evil is one of the biggest franchises in gaming, so no doubt that when I heard Resident Evil Revelations 1 and 2 were getting ported to the Nintendo Switch at NYCC, I had to give it a hands-on preview.

The game, as expected, plays great on the Switch. These games released back on the 3DS a couple years back, so the Switch’s relatively low machine power, had really no hand to play in this battle.

Both games were present at the convention show floor, so fans who never played or heard of these titles had the chance to get a little time in before it launches later this year. This was a smart move from Capcom and Nintendo, showcase games like this on the show floor of conventions and people will flood to your console; the line alone was long enough to have bystanders wonder “what game is that?”

Both games are unique in their own way; both are in the new Resident Evil fashion of more action-like gameplay, then the slower methodical horror elements of the original titles. Thankfully, the gameplay is smooth and fun to play. Revelations have players on a ship while Revaltions 2 has players involved in a mystery-like horror similar to Saw.

Each brings their own set of pros and cons, but at the end of the day, they both played great on the Switch. Resident Evil Revelations 1 and 2 are great additions to the ever-growing Nintendo Switch library. New fans and veterans alike will want to pick up these games as soon as it releases, I can guarantee it.

Have you played Resident Evil Revelations 1 or 2 yet? Excited for it to come to Switch? Let us know in the comments below!
