Cyberpunk 2077 Developed & Optimized For Current Gen Platforms

August 28, 2018 by Dennis Patrick

Developers already knew the game would be developed for current generation platforms.

Cyberpunk 2077 has been highly anticipated since its initial announcement from development studio, CD Projekt Red. Coming from their successful trilogy that is The Witcher, the team is looking at a brand new RPG experience where players are taken into the distant future, in a world that’s filled with corruption, crime, and technology advances.

The hype only grew when it had an official trailer showcased during Microsoft’s E3 press conference in 2018. Attendees at the event were even given a private glimpse into the gameplay which was also shown to those that attended Gamescom.

However, fans around the world were finally given the same treatment when CD Projekt Red revealed the nearly hour gameplay footage online. The in-game world looks so incredible and immersive that some gamers may have considered this title to be something in development for next-generation consoles. Luckily that’s not the case as Maciej Pietras, lead cinematic animator of Cyberpunk 2077, spoke with CGMagazine.

During their conversation, Maciej Pietras stated that the development team went into the production of this game knowing it would be developed for the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One platforms. The optimization was already on their minds and we’ve since received word on just what specs were running the game during the E3 press conference private showings.

“We knew we are developing the game for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. And we started the process of optimization right at the start. So that’s why what you see running on the demo is a PC, which is like i7 and 1080 Ti.”

To be more specific, it has already been revealed that the PC running the Cyberpunk 2077 build contained the following components.

  • Intel i7-8700K
  • Asus ROG Strix Z370-I Gaming
  • G.Skill Ripjaws V (2x 16GB 3000MHz)
  • GeForce GTX 1080 Ti
  • Samsung 960 Pro 512 GB M.2 PCIe
  • Corsair SF600 600W

During the interview, the lead animator did state that it was challenging to create the big city from the game in comparison to The Witcher series. However, it looks like things are progressing with the development team already having a completely playable build from start to finish.

Currently, outside of being a game slated to release on the PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One, we don’t have any information as to when Cyberpunk 2077 will be released into the market.
