A classic franchise from both the arcades and Sega Genesis platform is finally receiving a new installment. News broke earlier today that Streets of Rage 4 is in the works which is currently being developed under Dotemu and Lizardcube. The video game still looks as if it will bring back the classic side-scrolling beat ‘em up gameplay that the franchise is known for.
This is big news for fans of the original titles as we haven’t seen a new game from the Streets of Rage franchise since 1994. Overall, the game had players beating up thugs and other criminals in a city environment with a slew of boss fights scattered throughout the levels. Not only was the gameplay praised but the soundtrack for the franchise became an iconic hit thanks to composer Yuzo Koshiro.
So far all we know for this upcoming game is that it will feature Axel and Blaze, who were present in the past installments. Right now it’s unknown if other characters such as Max or Skate will be making an appearance within this next installment.
Graphically, the game is a bit different than the original installments but it still appears to still be the classic 2D side-scroller with a more cartoonish aesthetic. Unfortunately, other than the announcement trailer, we don’t have any news regarding what video game platforms Streets of Rage 4 will end up on or just when the game will hit the marketplace.
For now, you can take a look at the trailer announcement posted above.
