Thomas Was Alone Player Base Grew With PS Plus

July 11, 2013 by Andrea Castellano

Thomas Was Alone benefited from the PS Plus service.

Thomas Was Alone, an indie platformer developed by Mike Bithell, saw a significant increase in the amount players playing the game explained with the PlayStation Plus service.

When speaking with Joystiq, Bithell explained that Thomas Was Alone "sold really well" on both Vita and PS3, and that return from PS Plus availability is "ridiculous" and "amazing." With PS Plus, Bithell said his more people played his game through the service than through the launch of the game on Steam last summer.

Bithell said that with PS Plus "a whole bunch of cool players who are really into their games – that's why they have PS Plus, – who know who the hell I am now."

Thomas Was Alone started as a small project that eventually turned into something much larger than anticipated. With the PS Plus release, players became familiar with Bithell who now works on his second game.

"I need as many people onside, and knowing what Thomas Was Alone is, and maybe even knowing who I am, so it means something when the trailer comes out and it says 'From the creator of Thomas Was Alone.' And that's what PS Plus was awesome for." With PS Plus Bithell said that it "massively inflated [his] audience beyond what a normal esoteric indie platformer would have, which is great."

The PS4 will also carry a huge indie focus and continue to offer the PlayStation Plus service which will again make some indie games for free.
