The UK's Royal Society Summer Science Exhibition hosted a game jam in May which tasked developers with creating a game in just 12 hours. Now the Society are asking the public to vote on their favourite creations from this year's event.
Four games were made during the jam and all can be played for free on the Society's website or can be downloaded from IndieCity. The winner will receive additional funding which can be used to expand the scope of the game by adding extra content or could be used to bring the title to additional platforms.
The games created during the jam are A Pinch of Salt, which sees players pilot an ocean glider while trying to cover as wide an area as possible within a limited time. Cell Invaders, a puzzle adventure based on the "complex life of sugars". Out Both Ends, which tasks players with finding the source of a disease outbreak. Finally, Quantum Revolution is an "excitement packed space shooter game" based on quantum physics which was developed by Bossa Studios – the creators of Surgeon Simulator 2013 – in conjunction with Toshiba Research.
The Society isn't the only British institution to recently embrace gaming with the Victoria and Albert Museum appointing BAFTA game winning developer Sophia George as its first game designer in residence in May.
Yesterday, it was revealed that the second Molyjam event which is set to take place between 5-7 July is to be inspired by the actual quotations of Fable creator Peter Molyneux. The jam's organisers have a few suggestions here. Last year's Molyjam was based around the Molydeux parody Twitter account.
