PlayStation Plus on PS4 Detailed in New Video

June 20, 2013 by Josiah Renaudin

Here’s everything you need to know about the new PlayStation Plus.

Are you a little confused on why you actually want PlayStation Plus on the PlayStation 4? After a busy E3 brimming with fresh announcements and new console functionality, it’s totally normal to still be scratchingyour head on a few topics. One of which is PlayStation Plus, which will look a bit different on the upcoming PS4. Thanks to a new video by PlayStation Access, though, a full breakdown of what you’ll be getting with the $50 yearly subscription has been released to catch everyone up on the service.

As you remember, one of the biggest changes that next-generation consumers will have to get used to is online multiplayer now coming at a price on a Sony console. The Vita and PS3 will continue to support free online play, but the PlayStation 4 is a whole different beast. This, according to Sony Worldwide Studios president Shuhei Yoshida, wasn’t a quick decision.

"That's [was] a big decision, what we internally discussed and decided is that we will continue the free access to online play on PS3 and Vita, so that's clear,” Yoshida told CVG. “But because on PS4 the online connectivity features such as second screen, auto downloads and share features – these are one big pillar of the PS4 experience and we will continue to invest in this area to expand and improve these online features and services.”

Game discounts, early access to betas, a free game library, and much more is available to PlayStation Plus members. And there are plenty of features that aren’t blocked behind a paywall, such as cross-game chat and the video services the PS4 offers. There’s value being offered to both members and non-members, and according to a recent picture taken in a European retailer, all this can be yours when the PlayStation 4 supposedly launches Nov. 13.
