It's always disappointing watching a developer fail to successfully play their own games at an impressive level of skill. In this latest Pikmin 3 video, Shigeru Miyamoto demos the Mission Mode while successfully earning a Gold Medal for his efforts.
In Pikmin 3, think of the Mission Mode as a time trial. Players will select a mission to maximize the amount of items collected while using the least amount of Pikmin to do so. You can approach levels in many different ways that you feel minimizes the time needed. In this particular level, Miyamoto heads straight to the broken bridge to quickly assemble it. With access to the fixed bridge he can more quickly bring items back to the start of the level to collect as many points as possible.
Depending on the amount of items collected and the types of items collected within the set time, point totals will differ. Impressively enough, Miyamoto earns enough points to earn a Gold Medal.
As players replay levels and memorize the locations of higher point value items and remembering the abilities of each Pikmin, players can earn higher scores and beat their previous records.
Pikmin 3 will launch on the Wii U on August 4th in North America and July 26th in Europe.
