If you grew up watching or playing Pokémon, you probably dreamed of being a Pokémon trainer at least once in your life. What’s not appealing about leaving school early and catching whatever creature you can find during a global tour? The games have done a solid job of letting players experience the unique journey of a trainer from a distance, but it’s mostly been through a top-down perspective. Players want to be able to see through the eyes of their Pokémon wrangler, and it looks as if that may be possible in the upcoming 3DS games.
The second gameplay trailer for Pokemon X and Y was shown during the E3 Nintendo Direct, and if you weren’t playing close attention, you may have missed what could be the most interesting part of the video. During a few quick frames, a first-person mode was spotted for battles. While it’s possible that the image above is just what you see for a few moments after releasing your Pokemon of choice, the prospect of changing the perspective we’re used to from games in the past is exciting. We have, after all, played quite a few handheld games in the series up to this point, so change might be just what the franchise needs.
DLC is also being looked into for X and Y, according to IGN. A roundtable took place during E3 where the prospect was at least touched on, so we could either see new ways to play or entirely new Pokémon enter the fray through additional content.
