Blizzard isn't done with Diablo III. Interested in more than just porting the game to the PlayStation 3 and other console platforms, the studio is also looking into polishing the core game's core formula.
On the game's official blog, the game's new lead designer Josh Mosquiera wrote that he's looking to refine the game, initially for the console version, and now for the game as a whole—meaning, the PC version will be getting overhauled with all the improvements that are coming to its console counterparts.
"Itemization is one of our big focuses for Diablo III. We want items to feel more meaningful, and we want players to be excited about the next loot drop. Our goal is to make the loot experience more enjoyable for all players," he wrote.
"This includes reducing the amount of loot that drops while improving the overall quality, introducing targeted Legendaries, and giving players ways to directly customize their character’s armor – both visually and mechanically."
In other words, Blizzard intends to implement ways for players to customize their gear even further, through revamped visuals and aesthetic options that are presently unavailable. At the present, players can only customize their armors' looks by using dyes, which sadly enough, do not work on Legendary items.
The studio is also intent on downplaying the importance of the auction house.
"We’re also looking into ways to reduce the impact of the Auction House. While we think the feature does provide a lot of value, it shouldn’t feel like the end-all-be-all force driving character progression."
“We have some great ideas brewing for ways to address randomization, what our endgame should offer, and how to make playing online with friends truly fulfilling."
The game was previously updated to version 1.0.8, which carried some of the changes to itemization. Future updates are intended to be even more thorough in that regard.
