In a discussion with Joystiq, producer on the Tales series of games, Hideo Baba, revealed that he currently does not plan to release a Tales game on next generation consoles. While we did see Tales of Vesperia on Xbox 360 and PS3 then Tales of Grace on the PS3, we currently won't see any Tales games on next generation platforms.
When asked of which platforms will see a release, producer Hideo Baba said he will release game on platforms with the most fan demand. As of now, only PlayStation 3 owners will see new series entries for the JRPG.
Despite his focus on the PlayStation 3, Hideo Baba saw the value in newer hardware. "Compared to the existing consoles like the Xbox 360 or PS3, the PS4 and Xbox One have much improved CPU, GPU, and memory"
Despite the improvement Baba plans to stay with the PS3 user base. "So I think they [have] more potential, especially with visual effects. I'm afraid I don't have any plans to release for titles for the Xbox One or PS4, because my policy is to release Tales titles to the console which most of the fans want to play on."
In addition to the Xbox One and PS4, even Wii U owners will need to wait. "I don't have any new plans to release titles for the Wii U."
His approach sounds awfully similar to the Yakuza HD releases on the Wii U. While the Yakuza series will stay on PlayStation platforms, producer of the series, Toshihiro Nagoshi, views the HD releases as an "experiment" to gauge the interest of Wii U owners.
When speaking of the new Tales release, Tales of Xillia, Bada said that "The reason why Xillia was released only on PS3 was because that is the console where most of the users want to play Tales games" You will only see Tales games on next generation console if the user bases demand it.
Tales of Xillia, the PlayStation 3 only game, will release this August 6th in North America and August 9th in Europe.
