The Last Guardian is one of those games that feels like it may never come out. It was announced back in 2009, and in 2010 we were told the team aimed to have it available by the holiday season of 2011, but it hasn't appeared yet. There was no word of the game at E3 last year, and the trademark was abandoned last year too, but earlier this year we were told that the game was still in development.
Now, people are talking about the game once again because of a listing on the E3 website. The E3 Insider has a page for The Last Guardian that suggests we'll hear more about it this year:
“Check out all the latest screenshots and videos for The Last Guardian, then come back here on Tuesday, June 11 for all the latest details, straight from the E3 2013 convention floor!”
While the page naturally has no release date, simply listing it as “TBD”, it does provide the platform as PS3, with no mention of the PS4, though that may just be because Sony has made no PS4 announcement yet. However, Sony is keen to prevent fans from getting their hopes up, as a spokesperson told Eurogamer:
“The page on the ESA site is speculative I'm afraid.”
That said, if The Last Guardian is indeed still in development then it is possible that we'll see the game at E3 this year. Some fans will hope that the delay is partly due to the game coming to PS4, which may explain why it didn't appear at E3 last year (i.e. before the PS4 was officially confirmed). We'll find out next week.
