Dark Souls 2 will be releasing later this year, and it’s expected that the title will be the largest and most expansive of the franchise so far. While Namco Bandai has not yet announced an exact launch date for the game, reports published yesterday indicate that it will be released sooner than expected on the Playstation 3 and Xbox 360.
What has made the series so popular is its quirkiness. The titles, both Demon’s Souls and Dark Souls, feature unique game elements and worlds that other franchises do not. It is in this vein of thought that we can turn to some new, leaked concept art for Dark Souls 2.
After taking a peek at the above images, you’ll soon realize that From Software – the game’s developer – doesn’t appear to have any qualms about continuing their trend of a dark and dreary landscape. While it would have been nice to see a change in scenery, I can definitely understand the development perspective. If it isn’t broken, don’t fix it, right?
At any rate, the concept art looks phenomenal. While this work comes mainly from one of the game artists’ portfolios, it’s hard to argue what From Software is currently working on, which leads us to believe it’s very likely that you’ll see some of this art implemented within the game.
It would also be wise to note that there is definitely some sort of “ocean-side” theme at play here, and both the trailers and this concept art are indicative of that. We’re not sure what this means for the series or how it will affect gameplay, but it’s certainly exciting.
