In the first year of sales, the financial services company called The Cowen Group expects Grand Theft Auto 5 to sell 18 million copies in the first year.
The report came out of a Technology, Media and Telecom Conference where Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick said that GTA 5 pre-orders continue to sell "very, very, very, very, very, very well." A sentence of 6 "very"s must hint at a 6 figure pre-order number. Right?
To provide some perspective, since 2008, Grand Theft Auto 4 sold 25 million copies. To provide even an even deeper perspective, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 broke sales records in 2011.
While the current console install base grew significantly since 2008, Grand Theft Auto 5 will need to at least sell more than 7 million copies during the launch month. Expected sales need to sell more and at a faster rate than current Call of Duty titles.
As of now, Grand Theft Auto 5 will only launch on the Xbox 360 and PS3. PC, PS4, Wii U and Xbox One version still need official confirmations despite what Amazon listings say and the amount of signatures internet petitions gather.
Grand Theft Auto 5will launch on September 17th for PS3 and Xbox 360.
