Keen Final Fantasy fans have discovered a new side-quest in Final Fantasy IX, thirteen years after the game was released which you can see in the video below.
If you take Disc 4 of the game there are a number of conditions which are needed to start and advance the quest. Players need to head to the Tantalus hideout at the start of the disc and you'll fine Zenero talking to Benero concerning the whereabouts of Marcus and Cinna. While you've likely seen this before, this actually marks the start of the quest.
Head out to Memoria and proceed until you come across a cut-scene or boss fight before returning to the Tantalus base where you'll discover Genero wondering where Benero and Zenero are. Repeat this process seven more times before speaking to Zidane, initiating this conversation will open a new chest in the hideout containing a Protect Ring. If you return to the hideout again the quest will start over.
In order to progress in the quest you'll need to reach each of the following stages:
- Loading Disc 4.
- The battle with Nova Dragon.
- The fight with Maliris.
- The flashback of Alexander.
- The scene where Zidane talks to himself.
- The flashback of Dagger on the boat.
- The scene with the giant eye in the sky.
- The battle with Tiamat.
- The scene with the two planets colliding.
- The scene where Quina thinks he/she is drowning.
- The scene where Garland talks about memories.
- The battle with Kraken.
- The scene about Gaia's birth.
- The battle with Lich.
- The scene where Garland talks about the beginning and the Crystal.
- The scene where the party enters the Crystal World.
- The battle with Deathguise.
Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn and Final Fantasy Lightning Returns are set to be released this year while a new next-gen entry in the series will be revealed at E3.
