If you haven’t been paying attention to the games being developed by Ninja Theory, you should probably fix that problem. With interesting projects like Heavenly Sword and DMC: Devil May Cry under this British game studio’s belt, it’s difficult to not get excited about even the smallest hint concerning a new product coming from this particular team. They teased us yesterday by claiming that something new would be coming today, but instead of simply waiting for the announcement, a trademark that Ninja Theory registered has been discovered for a game called “Fightback.”
Fightback has been registered under “interactive entertainment software, computer games software, video games programs,” so yes, this is at least intended to be a video game. The application (discovered by Gamechup) is still under examination, as it was only submitted on May 2. Additionally, the domain fightbackgame.com has been registered, but the WhoIs results indicate that the location was secured by proxy. Because of this issue, there is currently no solid way to tie the two together.
It’s an interesting development, and as you can see from the above Tweet, we won’t have to wait too much longer to learn just what Ninja Theory is up to. It’s possible that it’s nothing more than a new batch of DLC for the Devil May Cry reboot, which didn’t exactly see the commercial love that it deserved. However, it’d also be great if this Fightback project was something entirely new. As we enter the next generation, the prospect of fresh IP becomes even more appealing on improved hardware.
