In addition to an upcoming brand new installment of BlazBlue, which is headed to the PlayStation 3 later this fall, in Japan at least (a localized version has yet to be announced, but it's sure to happen), there's also an anime that's set to hit airwaves later this summer, again in Japan.
Japanator reports that the show will be called BlazBlue Alter Memory and will be produced by teamKG and Hoods Entertainment. The later, by the way, was responsible for The Qwaser of Stigmata, which was rather infamous in hardcore anime circles; it's slated for domestic release in the near future, but expect it be heavily censored.
It will be directed by Seiji Mizushima, whose previous work should be a tad bit more recognizable to casual anime fans (somewhat); he previously worked on Gundam 00. The scripts will be penned by Deko Akao and Tatsuya Takahashi, best known for Mysterious Girlfriend X and Arakawa Under the Bridge.
Tomoyuki Shitaya of Bakuman fame will handle character designs, though what this means in unclear. Will he be revising the looking of the existing cast dramatically, or will he simply provide brand new faces? More than likely a combination of the two.
Those who are heavily into anime (such as myself) are frankly not expecting the best, unfortunately. Hoods Entertainment isn't exactly know for quality animation. Though on the plus side, all the original voice actors from the games will be reprising their roles, which is a real bonus.
The last time a relatively high profile game was given the anime treatment was Sengoku Basara (which used to be known in America as Devil Kings), it helped to create a cross over hit, and perhaps the same will happen here? Though in that instance, it benefited from having a major publisher, Capcom, offering support by orchestrating all sorts of wacky product tie-ins, like Pizza Hut.
It's hard to say if Arc Systemworks has the same kind of pull. At any rate, one last thing, and back to the aforementioned brand new game; a brand new trailer was recently unveiled as well:
