In addition to the highly demanded return of the Spies vs. Mercs multiplayer mode, Splinter Cell: Blacklist will also feature a 2 player cooperative mode.
While Ubisoft Toronto develops Splinter Cell: Blacklist's other modes, Ubisoft's Shanghai team develops the maps for the co-op mode. With the co-op, Ubisoft wants to provide a level progression that significantly involves both players when completing the many objectives. Ubisoft wants to avoid scenarios where one player will rush down a narrow hallway eliminating threats and completing objectives without the help of their partner. To combat the lone wolf style of play, Ubisoft Shanghai will aim to create open, not linear levels. Each level should allows a variety of possible paths to navigate the environments and situations to encourage a well coordinated assault to guarantee success.
The co-op will feature 14 unique maps and 4 different mission objectives. Each mission will tell its own story tied to the core narrative of Splinter Cell: Blacklist. Some objectives will require both players to progress only using stealth and well timed movements. Some missions will let the player decide their own course of action.
Between now and the August 20th release date, Ubisoft Toronto hopes to reveal more information on each of Splinter Cell: Black List's modes.
