Umeshu Lovers is an indie ensemble comprised of industry vets, and it’s let loose a rather striking narrative adventure on kickstarter.
Currently seeking funding from interested backers, Forest of Liars is poetic, exotic, and deadly. Attention-stealing visuals define its world, and a mysterious premise flips the pages: in its innermost hub, the Forest of Liars guards a deep secret — one which none have been able to solve. Many have dared to answer the figurative Sphinx, but have succumbed to unknown dangers instead.
Now it’s your turn to embark on a wondrous expedition of beauty and peril, truth and falsehood, and survival or death. Naturally, you’re not the only one hungry to discover the forest’s riddle; several more inquisitive nomads are roaming about its corridors, not all of them good. You’ll quickly need to decide whether these new companions are friend or foe, and use the information to your advantage — once you’re sure of the deceiver’s deceit, you can do the opposite of whatever they say, much like the famous fork in the road/two-door logic puzzle.
Ultimately, your choices will shape the trajectory of your progress, and determine whether you reach the forest’s heart. There are several backing tiers available, though if you’re interested in securing yourself a copy of the game before release (which is scheduled for the end of 2019/early 2020) you’ll need to pledge €20/$24 USD.
Both PC and Mac are being targeted as expected release platforms. Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PlayStation 4 editions may follow depending on the success of the crowdfunding campaign.
