Following the details explaining the Xbox One's media and entertainment capabilities, Microsoft announced a partnership between 343 Industries and Steven Spielberg to create a Halo live action TV series.
The announcement comes after a Halo anime series, numerous rumors of Halo movies and the most recent Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn live action series available on YouTube.
Although he did not show up in person, Steven Spielberg spoke in a pre-recorded video explaining his excitement and the unique opportunity creating the Halo TV series allows him. He mentions that the introduction of newer technology enables bigger ideas. About the Halo franchise in particular, Spielberg said:
"The Halo universe is an amazing opportunity to be at that intersection where technology and mythmaking meet to produce something really groundbreaking."
In an interview with Nancy Tellem – Microsoft's president of entertainment and digital media – she reveals that the Halo TV series will operate on a budget similar to that of the HBO original series, Game of Thrones.
Nancy Tellem wants to see the Halo series reach television screens and the Xbox by the end of the year. While they plan to distribute the show over Xbox Live, Microsoft also plans to reach out to other television networks for distribution.
