GameXPlain has released an analysis of the latest Pokemon X and Pokemon Y gameplay trailer which discusses both the new features coming to the games as well as the new region that they'll be set in.
While GameXPlan says Nintendo hasn't revealed too much new information there are still some additional insights to be made. The trailer begins with a look at Lumiose City, the main metropolis in the games and an alternative vision of Paris (the games are set in a version of Northern France). Lumiose is the largest city in the Kalos region and based on what we've seen is also the largest game in any Pokemon title to date.
The city is in the center of the region and it seems that GameFreak designed Pokemon X and Y's world around it. In the analysis video it's suggested the tower is in fact similar to Disney Land's Castle with all the major roads in the city, and the region, leading to it. Of course, the tower is a representation of the Eiffel Tower and further reinforcing the French feel of the games many of the city's inhabitants are wearing berets.
The Kalos regions, and Northern France, both form a cruedly drawn five point star and Lumiose City is also divided into distinct areas suggesting it will be possibly to enter the city from five different directions. Usually, cities in Pokemon games tend to have no more than four routes leading into them.
It appears that the male trainer enters the city through one of these paths – path five, which likely also indicates the route number. To the west of the city is a desert region which seems to a giant power station generating both wind and geothermal energy. Based on details on the map it seems that time will be a returning feature with the games cycling through day and night cycles but that seasons may not be a feature.
Among the new transport options included in Pokemon X and Y is the abilty to ride a Pokemon (Gogoat) in certain areas, rollerblades and the ability to move diagonally. Previously, trainers could only move left, right, forwards, or backwards. It also seems that players will have dynamic control over the camera in Pokemon X and Y, another new feature.
Pokemon X and Pokemon Y are set to be released exclusively on 3DS this October.
