Gran Turismo creator Kazunori Yamauchi has a planned laid out for the release and future support of the recently announced Gran Turismo 6. Although the project is currently being developed exclusively for the PlayStation 3 in order to take advantage of the wide fanbase, it’s likely that a PlayStation 4 version will be available in the future.
The platforms that the game will arrive on was one of the major sticking points from members of the media, as many people were confused by the fact that a massive PS3 game release is occurring during the launch of a new Sony console. IGN, who sent a few media members to the Silverstone racetrack in England for the event, had a chance to talk to Yamauchi about it all.
“We actually do have a PlayStation 4 version in mind, but for this holiday season, we thought it would be best for users to release on PS3 for now,” he said.
However, that doesn’t mean we’ll see a next-generation race track just months after the initial release. There will likely be a stream of DLC making the PS3 version more complete before the PS4 is even considered.
“I thought the best scenario would be to have the game come out, then to have new scenarios, new DLC and other updates,” Yamauchi continued. “Once the players have thoroughly played out the system, if the PlayStation 4 version came out naturally, as part of that process, I think that would be the best scenario.”
Progress will “probably” be transferable between the two version, but at this time, the main focus is holiday 2013 on the console you actually own.
