In just a few short weeks, developer Insomniac Games will be launching its first multiplatform game published by EA. The company has found a great deal of success on Sony’s platforms with franchises like Resistance and Ratchet & Clank, but with the cost of development going through the rough, reaching the greatest number of people on a realistic budget is always the goal. That’s why Fuse will be available on both PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, but it’s also important to not forget about the Wii U.
Speaking with Digitally Downloaded, Insomniac CEO Ted Price discussed exactly why this month’s Fuse isn’t hitting the Wii U at this time. The simple explanation: resource management.
“We have to be selective because it’s easy to start to stretch yourself too thin. So we’re careful about where we go. One of the questions I got a lot of early on was 'why aren’t you developing for the Wii U?' and the answer was simply bandwidth,” Price said. “We had to focus on delivering a great game on multiple platforms, but there’s a point where we had to make hard choices, and for us we needed to limit the number of platforms for Fuse.”
Price stated that Nintendo needs to provide its console with better first-party support in order to grab the core fanbase. He wants games like Mario, Zelda, and Metroid to all help the company push more units, but that doesn’t mean that a game like Fuse can’t make its dual-screen debut at a later date.
“But we’re not ruling out anything in the future. We are a content creator and we want to reach as large of an audience as we can,” he said.
The Fuse demo is currently out and ready to be downloaded, and if you end up liking the trial, the full game will launch May 28.
