The Stomping Land, a multiplayer PC game about survival in a world populated with dinosaurs, has reached its Kickstarter goal in less than 24 hours. With 28 days left to go before the campaign deadline, backers have already pledged a total of $30,934, 150% of the original $20,000 goal.
This game is the first that Alex Fundora – a developer who worked on Skyrim but has now gone indie – but the prototype looks like it includes several workable features already. The world and its saurian inhabitants look fairly basic, but Fundora hopes to improve that by hiring an artist (or several) to make the environment bigger and prettier. Note that “dedicated artists for creating an immersive gameworld” is one of the stretch goals, at $175,000.
The protagonist, a muscled hunter equipped with a bow and arrow, does look polished, and is convincingly animated. In the video we see him shoot down small dinosaurs with his bow and arrow, but as he attempts to salvage the meat he needs to survive from one of his fallen targets, a large carnivore smells the feast and the hunter must retreat. To deal with the challenges this world brings, the hunter can use a variety of tools to make traps, lure antagonistic dinosaurs together, and even ride around on the back of one of the dinosaurs.
It all sounds awesome, but it does sound like the game will remain relatively basic unless Fundora manages to raise much more than the original $20,000 goal. That said, with 150% of that raised in only a couple of days, it doesn't look like that'll be too hard.
