Sony has announced that a demo for Fuse, the upcoming shooter from Insomniac games, will arrive on the PlayStation Network today. Since the game is designed with co-op in mind – with four playable characters of roughly equal status and intentionally complementary abilities and Fuse weapons – the demo will let you try out the game with one friend in local split-screen mode or with up to three online, as well as just on your own.
The part of the game that the demo lets you experience is apparently from around halfway through the game, though we can assume that it won't contain any major spoilers. Players will be trying to stop a rogue group called Raven from using the alien substance called Fuse to “form a new world order”, which sounds a little like the same old story with a different main prop.
That said, the point of Fuse is probably not the plot, but an opportunity for Insomniac to show off some of its characteristic humour (which we're promised will still be there despite the makeover from the far more colourful Overstrike) in an action-filled setting. The focus for players will be the ability to make use of the alien weapons, which should make the game stand apart from more traditional, realistic shooters.
The announcement comes with a new trailer, which features some monologuing from the baddies and then shows off the Fuse weapons in action. We also get a glimpse of what looks like a giant, presumably also powered by Fuse.
Fuse launches for PS3 on May 28.
