You want to play Star Wars: Battlefront 3. We really want to play Battlefront 3, too. Honestly, the third entry in this class-based shooter surrounding one of the most popular licenses in entertainment stands as one of the highest-profile titles to ever be canceled. People have been clamoring for more information on developer Free Radical’s prior project, and during Star Wars Day this weekend, fans of the series were given over an hour of cold, hard gameplay from the pre-alpha version of the game.
The above video is a shorter, more action-packed highlight reel taken directly from the lengthy steam, while the full, unedited video can be found here. Since it is footage that wouldn’t regularly be shown to the public due to its unfinished nature, the full stream displays some seriously buggy gameplay. The frame rate is poor, the action stutters with every step, and the textures are quite muddy. However, Free Radical has claimed in the past that it almost finished the game, bringing the game to 99 percent completion, but the recently closed publisher LucasArts just didn’t see a light at the end of the tunnel for the game. It had said that the developer missed deadlines and the project was in a very poor state, and while it’s a little unfair to judge the pre-alpha footage provided, you can see why LucasArts would be worried.
Would you want to test the game out in its current state? That really depends on just how much you want to experience Star Wars: Battlefront 3. Either way, it is fun to at least see the game in action – even if we’ll never get our grubby little hands on it.
