A few days ago we detailed every single component that would make up the Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection. Which as the name implies, collects every significant Metal Gear release in one tidy package, for the PS3.
Now, one detail we didn't mention was the format. Many, myself included, assumed that it would be a digital download, since that's simply become the preferred method of content delivery these days, especially for legacy games.
But, as Destructoid points out, it's coming out in a physical form. On two Blu-ray discs apparently. The above is the recently revealed Japanese version. As you can see, the packaging is quite sexy. Fingers crossed that Americans get a halfway decent version.
Then again, going by how 99% of all classic collections for the PS3 are packaged, one should not hold his or her breath. In the end, downloading everything might be the way to go.
Unless the physical version comes with the 100 page book that is included in the Japanese edition. The package, in Japan, by the way, will retail for 7,980 yen. Which, at the current exchange rate, is a little over $80.
Given that most collections go for a far cheaper price, it'll be interesting to see if Konami monkeys around with the package, to get it to that $40 mass market price point that is the norm for comparable packages, or if they just keep it at the premium price, knowing that only diehard collectors will go for such a deal.
Though the most interesting revelation about the Japanese edition of the Metal Gear Solid: The Legacy Collection is how it slightly differs from the US edition. Though not by much; the only difference is how Metal Gear Solid: VR Missions has been replaced by Metal Gear Solid: Intergral.
Integral was the souped up version of the original Metal Gear Solid, which added a host of new function and additional content. A revamp that never came out here in America. Instead, the VR missions were extracted and made into their own release, the aforementioned VR Missions stand alone game.
