The wait is almost over, loyal Rayman fans. After seeing Legends pushed from 2012, to early 2013, and then to late September, this beautiful platformer has finally caught a break. Instead of waiting to make a splash this fall, Ubisoft’s Rayman Legends will finally see the light of day in Europe August 30 and in North America Sep. 3.
Now, let’s do a quick recap. Back in the day, everyone expected Legends to launch Nov. 20, 2012 as one of the most exciting Wii U exclusives around, but was instead pushed to an early 2013 date. After that, Nintendo fans were left in the cold once again when Ubisoft decided it wanted the title on more than just the dual-screened device. PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game pushed the launch back even further, which created both a vocal uproar and the creation of a popular petition against the move. Michel Ancel, the cheery creator of the series, even disagreed with the publisher's actions.
After much distress, everyone’s favorite limbless hero will get his time to shine a month earlier than projected. A free online application will also be coming to the Wii U version of the game as an apology to all the patient fans.
It’s unclear what this means for the rumored PlayStation Vita version of the game. A Vita listing was discovered earlier this week on international retailer FNAC’s website, which placed the release date of Legends on August 29. Sadly, Ubisoft would have likely announced this version along with the press release, so Vita owners shouldn’t hold their breath.
Instead, expect to see Legends on PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and Wii U in just a few short months. We hope.
