A couple of days ago, we shared the news that Epic Games’ Fortnite: Battle Royale will be getting a mobile release, and with the mobile release, will end up supporting crossplay and cross-progress functionality. Same fornite experience, same map, same content, just on the go.
Unfortunately, Xbox One was woefully left off the list of platforms supporting cross-play functionality. This was kind of a bummer considering Xbox has always been the console frontman for pushing cross-play incentives – it was always Sony that wasn’t ready to play ball.
Now we’ve received confirmation that Xbox One will in fact support cross-play, cross-progression, and cross-purchase, between Xbox One, PC, Mac, iOS and (in the next few months) Android.
‘Contrary to what may have been implied, Microsoft has long been a leading voice in supporting cross-platform play, connecting players across PC, mobile and all consoles. We’ve been working together with them over the last several months to make this possible, and will bring this functionality to Fortnite players on Xbox right along with other platforms.’
If are you interested in taking part in the invite-only event sign up on the website tomorrow (which you can do, here.) So far, the list of supported devices are as follows: iOS 11 on at least an iPhone 6S/SE, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, iPad 2017 devices.
Fortnite is out now for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. Mobile devices coming soon.
