Sony confirmed a holiday 2013 release date for the PlayStation 4 during its February press conference, but whether that window is worldwide or region-specific has yet to be discussed. Even if the general public is still unclear on an exact date, U.K. retailer GAME is expecting the powerful next-generation hardware to make it to Europe this year.
Videogamer recently spotted marketing material that explicitly shows a 2013 date for Sony’s latest and greatest console. The ads shown below also ask customers to leave a £20 deposit to get in the queue for what’s sure to be a busy launch day, but at this time, no actual price has been announced. That £20 will likely be a drop in what’s sure to be a deep money bucket.
This isn’t the first piece of evidence that suggests the initial holiday 2013 target is global and not just for particular regions. Game Stop's vice president of strategy business and brand development, Micheal Hogan, spoke on the topic earlier this month.
"We know that Sony will introduce the PlayStation 4 globally in 2013, but we are still waiting to see what Microsoft's plans are," Hogan said.
No matter when the PlayStation 4 launches, people will be there to check out just what the next generation of technology will bring. Early comparisons between what we have now and what’s being packed into the PS4 show a true, procedural leap, and with the ability to share gameplay with anyone connected to the internet via the Share button, the future of the industry seems bright.
