Recently, developer Rockstar Games renewed its interesting marketing efforts for Grand Theft Auto 5 via the Epsilon Program. This Twitter account, which acts as a caricature of the Church of Scientology, went on a five-month hiatus from posting bizarre messages on the mircoblogging service, but now the studio’s official page is featuring an Epsilonism promo video.
Clouds and water seemingly reacting to a time lapse are what’s shown behind some of the most interesting quotes you’ll see in modern marketing. A fantastical song plays during the video, and while we won’t list each and every statement the promo offers, here are some of the best claims from “The 12 Goals of Epsilonism”:
“Everyone is related to everyone else, except for people with red hair.”
“Sperm does not exist – it is a lie spread by biology teachers – along with everything else you have ever been told.”
“If you believe this and turn your hands and wallet over to Epsilonism, you’ll have a happy life. Otherwise you are doomed.”
Not exactly your standard method of promoting a major video game release, but when you’re Rockstar, you really have free reign in this area. It looks as if a live-action commercial is even being produced in order to promote the massive open-world game.
Whether you find this hilarious or offensive, the release of a new game in this series is always an event. Look for Grand Theft Auto 5 to break a few records when it releases on the PlayStation 3, Xbox 360, and PC Sep. 17.
