It’s been seven years since the first announcement of Final Fantasy Versus XIII. This highly anticipated action-RPG from Square Enix, which is said to center around a dynasty that has dominion over the last remaining crystal in the world, has had little more than a few gameplay videos and images shown since its introduction as a PlayStation 3 exclusive. Rumors of an impending announcement have been floating throughout the internet for months, but a designer close to the project has gone on record asking for patience from the fans as the game approaches completion.
During the first episode of Square Enix Merchandise Radio, Tetsuya Nomura, a game director and character designer on the project, was asked about the game’s progress. As one of the most secretive projects in active development, Nomura couldn’t say much on Versus XII, but it sounds like a big announcement is on the horizon.
“It’s a delicate situation within the company,” Nomura said. “The date for our next reveal is set and we are working toward preparing information for that. Perhaps the details as to why information couldn’t be released might be touched upon with the next information announcement.”
Nomura did apologize for the significant delay that’s taken the game out of the public eye, but he just wants fans to wait a little while longer. With prior reports of Square Enix cancelling the entire project, it’d be best if some sort of confirmation that this is still a game was made public sooner rather than later.
