A few days ago we mentioned how the upcoming Poker Night 2 would unlock items in various other games, including Team Fortress 2 and Borderlands 2.
Well, it goes a tad bit further than that. Which is all detailed in the following trailer:
As you can see, the Borderland 2 unlocks applies to PC, Mac, Xbox 360, and PS3 versions of the games. Whereas the Team Fortress 2 unlocks are just for the PC and Mac versions. Sorry Xbox 360 and PS3 players, though given how those versions haven't been updates in ages, that's hardly a shocker. It’s also unclear is Linux players get to reap said benefits either.
But those on either platform has their own, exclusive unlocks as well. Xbox 360 owners get avatar items (yay) and PS3 owners get PS3 get custom themes (double yay). Hey, at least something, right?
If anything, other game companies could learn a few things from what Telltale Games is doing. Extending the life of one game by having unlockables in another is a frankly brilliant idea that extends the life of the recipient title, and in a form more effective (as well as flat out welcome) manner than just charging games for DLC.
Unfortunately, it also doesn't take a genius to know that such a notion is like a fork being scraped across a chalkboard to the dollars and sense people at most publishers, so this is definitely a rare instance.
Poker Night 2 arrives next week, on April 23rd to be exact.
