What was teased a few days ago via Sega of America on YouTube has been officially announced; an HD remake of the Genesis platforming classic, Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse, is arriving later this summer.
Here's the announcement trailer, which largely contains much of what was contained in the aforementioned teaser, just in a far more clear and straightforward manner:
According to the PlayStation Blog, Sega of Australia is putting the game together and the team is actually working with those who were around for the original, which came out over twenty years ago, in 1990:
"We have also been working very closely with the director of the original game, who is now at Disney Interactive. We are having a blast working with her to realize many of the elements that were intended for the original game, but couldn’t be achieved until now due to the technical limitations of previous generation consoles. If you have played the original game, you will also see that we have kept intact many of the major iconic elements of the game that helped define this groundbreaking game at the time of its original release."
It was assumed by many that it would be a PlayStation 3 exclusive, but the Castle of Illusion HD will be coming out for PS3, Xbox 360, and the PC via Steam.
So it would seem that we're getting two Disney classics back and retooled for the modern era, with the other being the upcoming remake of Ducktales, obviously. Hopefully if they do well, we'll eventually get a HD remake of Quakshot.
