GameStop's CEO, J. Paul Raines, speaking to GamesIndustry has said the next console from Microsoft is a "very hot, compelling device."
Although the console has not yet been officially announced, or even acknowledged, Raines is excited by what Redmond is brewing commenting "We've been spending a lot of time with Microsoft, but we have to let them take the lead on this. But it will be a very hot, compelling device.
"They are doing some really cool stuff and I am eager to hear them start their announcements because I think the world is going to sit up and take notice," he added.
Raines went on to express postivity about next generation consoles and the sales of those systems saying "We certainly don't believe that the new consoles won't be as exciting,"
The executive pointed to GameStop's list of those who have signed up to recieve information about PS4 which now stands at 900,000 people.
He also suggested that games for next-gen consoles may be more expensive "I think publishers, if you asked them, wouldn't mind seeing a price increase."
Regardless of what games cost on future platforms it certainly seems people are optimistic about the forthcoming generation with a GameStop survey suggesting the PS4 is the most popular choice among those looking to buy a gadget at some point over the next 12 months.
Naturally GameStop will be relying on sales of new consoles so quite how accurate the survey is remains somewhat debatable, even so, yesterday we reported analyst Michael Pachter's comments that Sony's announcement of the PS4 has led to increased investor confidence in the core game market.
