David Hayter has been the voice of Solid Snake and Big Boss in the Metal Gear Solid games for as long as most gamers can remember. However, he will not be making a return to the MGS series in Metal Gear Solid 5.
Despite Hayter's popularity with the fans of the series, Hayter confirmed on Twitter today that he was not asked by Kojima to reprise his role as Big Boss, whom he played in Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater and Metal Gear Solid: Portable Ops. He did not voice the character in Metal Gear Solid 4.
Hayter wrote: "Well look, at least I had a good run."
When asked if he'd be making a return, he replied simply: "Nope."
According to GameFront, Richard Doyle will be voicing the game's protagonist. Boyle previously played Big Boss in Metal Gear Solid 4, alongside Hayter, who voiced Solid Snake.
Boyle's role in the game has yet to be confirmed by official sources, but there's little reason why they wouldn't do so for the sake of series continuity.
