Today at their PAX East panel, Capcom announced that they’ll be publishing a remake of the NES Ducktales game, calling it Ducktales Remastered.
It’s being developed by Way Forward, makers of other popular licensed games like the recent Adventure Time release, a remake of A Boy And His Blob, Aliens Infestation and Contra 4.The game will star Scrooge McDuck in his never-ending attempt to amass more wealth so that he can swim in it, defying all laws of physics regarding items stacked onto other items still retaining solid form.
The original game is well loved for a variety of reasons, it’s mechanically interesting, it’s a licence that’s well loved and there’s some excellent music in it. The “Moon Theme” in particular is an unmissable classic of the chiptune format. This game purports to update the visuals and modernise the gameplay, according to the press release:
“All of the visuals from the 8-bit game have been beautifully re-created as hand-drawn and animated sprites, across a backdrop of luscious, re-envisioned level backgrounds. Furthermore, original Disney Character Voices talent, including some from the cartoon TV series, bring in-game characters to life with charm and wit, while the classic melodies of the original soundtrack are given a modern twist.”
It was released with this trailer that also acts as a sing-along:
This was received well at their PAX Panel where the audience sang along with aplomb. We’re lucky enough to have footage of that.
It’ll be coming out on all current digital platforms (XBLA, PSN, Eshop) and will cost $15
Let’s all listen to the Moon Theme for a bit now, then, yeah?
