One of the most sought after pieces of software for iOS are emulators. It's also one of the things that Apple goes after the most (and quite aggressively).
Which is one iOS developer, wanting to release a Game Boy Advance emulator on the App Store decided to be sneaky about it. He (or she, we honestly don't know the identity) decided to smuggle it into the Apple run marketplace, by disguising it as an entirely different app. One that generated baby names.
The name of the app was simply callled Awesome Baby Names, and according to Pocket Gamer, with just a few taps on some hidden buttons a menu would appear. One that allowed you to load Game Boy Advance ROMS.
And as such, one could play a host of GBA games on the iPhone. Everything from Advance Wars to Pokemon, from Metroid Zero Mission to WarioWare, plus all the rest.
Pocket Gamer also included instructions on how to load GBA ROMs onto one's phone, but it's too late, since Apple has since pulled the app from their store. Something that even Pocket Gamer themselves predicted.
Awesome Baby Names was for the European App Store. In its North American counterpart, one can find something called Awesome! Baby Names, but it appears to be something entirely different. Plus it has been in the store for a number of years now.
Though in Europe who missed out, or those in other territories who never had a chance to nab a copy in the first place should not feel too bad. Apparently the app was not very good. For starters, there was no iPad support (it would work, but graphical glitches would result), the controls were bad, plus the settings were limited.
