The Kickstarter campaign for a new point-and-click adventure/RPG called Mage's Initiation is three days from completion. But Himalaya Studios – the team behind the quality remake of King's Quest – isn't here to beg for more money. In fact, the campaign reached its initial goal of $65,000 within a fortnight of its launch, and at the time of writing the grand total raised stands at $104,281. And while the team would probably like to see backers hit some more stretch goals (the remainder range from $110,000 for full-screen artwork to $250,000 for F.R.I.G.S. voice and text translation), that isn't mentioned in the latest update.
Instead, Himalaya Studios wants to offer players a chance to try out a demo of the upcoming game, with the following disclaimer:
Important Note: As of March 2013, this demo is still in an early alpha stage of the game’s development. It is feature-incomplete and there are bound to be some bugs.
The demo does not yet represent the final product.
Mage's Initiation is a retro-style point-and-click adventure/RPG hybrid, and the demo features aspects from both sides of that as well as some combat. You'll play as an initiate called D'arc, who has three tasks to complete to prove his worth.
As long as you're okay with the fact that this demo is not an exact example of what the final game will look and play like, then head over to the update page to download it and try it for yourself. Make sure you tell us what you think.
