Hawken, the mech-based Free-to-play shooter, has come to end for PC gamers, reasoning for the shutdown was that the developers wanted to refocus their development efforts. The entire game was removed from Steam PC on January 2, 2018 including regular access, DLC or any other digital content.
Some fans wondered as to why they didn’t make the game open-source rather than shutting it down, The reason behind this was due to mostly cost, according to the developers “We unfortunately do not have the bandwidth to extract the source code from the media services”.
That being said, if you own a PS4 or an Xbox One, the game is still available on your relevant platform, It hasalsoo noted multiple times that there are no current plans to remove the game from console platforms so it may stay up for some time. That being said, the sudden closure of Hawken on PC may serve as a warning for console gamers to get as much gaming out of their system before the game closes entirely.
‘Determine your method of mass destruction. Pilot lightweight assassin-like mechs or wade into the thick of action with heavy bruiser mechs. Every mech is unique and can be tailored to fill a variety of distinctive roles on the battlefield.’
Hawken is out now for PS4 and Xbox One.
