In a year where so many franchises were remastered or reinvented, it’s a little odd we haven’t heard a peep from Spyro the Dragon other than unverified rumours. But the absence of any official announcement didn’t stop one fan from crafting a stunning Christmas themed, 60 FPS tech demo that proves Spyro looks great in HD.
Entitled “Artisans Revisited”, it features a much more vivid hub homeworld that’s blanketed in snow and illuminated by heavenly auroras. It also offers sneak peaks at Stone Hill and another realm called Crystal Cave, plus the usual array of collectible gems.
Known as ‘Valefor’ on YouTube, the programming whiz has previously uploaded a build of the Artisan homeworld, but the Christmas demo is the first one to be made available for playtesting.
Given the overwhelming popularity of the remastered Crash Bandicoot N.Sane trilogy, we think it’s highly likely that Activision will eventually give Spyro the same treatment. And if Publishing boss Eric Hirshberg is to be believed, this could be sooner than later:
“Crash has surpassed all of our expectations by a pretty wide margin…We think we have other great IP in our portfolio that we’re considering of course…I think you can be confident that there will be more activity like this in the future with more great IP.”
