There were criticisms that Dead Space 3 had strayed far more toward an action based experience than found the first two. The upcoming Awakened DLC hopes to point fans back in the direction they came from. It’ll presumably use that cool light up line that shows you where savepoints are if you click in the right stick. Only instead of landmarks it’ll say “here’s some scary bits, dude”.
This add on takes place after Dead Space 3 has concluded. Series Mainstay Isaac Clarke and Other Guy John Carver visit a derelict ship filled with Unitologists. As is always the case with those chaps, some goddamn weird stuff is going to happen and it’s going to be very unpleasant and scary and likely the polar opposite of a sit down and a nice cup of tea.
According to Kotaku, this smaller segment of the game will feature more hallucinations than appeared in the entirety of the initial playthrough. This was a hallmark of the series and long time fans felt less than positive regarding their absense.
Reportedly these hallucinations will only be apparent for whoever’s playing as Isaac, so it’ll be interesting for whoever’s playing as Carver to see the world as it truly exists while they other guy’s freaking out over all sorts of mess.
The DLC will be released on March 12 for Xbox Live and Origin. It’s out on that date too on Playstation Network in the US, but if you’re in Europe you’ll have to wait until the day after. We aren’t sure why.
