Four years ago two brothers founded StudioMDHR. Since 2013 the brothers spent hour and hours using the original cartoon creation methods to build the iconic indie platformer Cuphead, a game that has now launched on PC and Xbox One to both critical and commercial success.
With the success of the challenging title, came resources to build the studio into a stronger force. During an interview with GameTransfers Chad Moldenhauer mentioned Disney made contact with the studio during Cuphead‘s development.
“Disney called early on, but it wasn’t for any crazy reasons, reaching out, touching base. Maybe in the future, there’s some project we might be able to work on.”
Considering the game was clearly inspired by Disney’s first cartoon’s it makes sense that the company reached out to the brothers to touch base. Perhaps we may see a Disney collaboration in the future?
‘Cuphead is a classic run and gun action game heavily focused on boss battles. Inspired by cartoons of the 1930s, the visuals and audio are painstakingly created with the same techniques of the era, i.e. traditional hand drawn cel animation, watercolor backgrounds, and original jazz recordings.’
Cuphead is out now for PC and Xbox One.
