Battlefield 4 may be a year from release, but the head honchos at EA Games are already talking up a storm about the upcoming first-person shooter. Given its pedigree, there's a good reason for them—and the gaming community in general—to be excited about the title.
Speaking at a recent investor conference call, Electronic Arts CFO Blake Jorgensen confirmed with the press and investors that the game is being developed for the next generation of consoles. He stated that he personally saw the game as it was demoed on Sony's newly announced PlayStation 4 console.
Although the game has yet to be announced, much less announced for the PS4, Jorgensen's statements confirm that the game is indeed being developed for Sony's next-gen gaming platform in addition to whatever else the studio and the game's publisher intend for it to be released on.
Jorgensen stated that EA Games' absence from Sony's PS4 unveiling conference means very little in reality, as the company intends to fully support the platform. "I'd say between now and E3, you're going to see a lot of stuff from us," he said.
He further added that the PS4's horsepower allows for developers like DICE to do a lot of things with the games they're developing that current generation systems simply cannot do. "I’ve seen the new Battlefield and it is stunning, I mean it is just amazing; what the imagination of the game developers are allowed to do with that much power," said Jorgensen.
