The highly anticipated Netflix show based on the novels which fueled the gaming franchise The Witcher has found a significant writer. Variety reported today that Lauren Schmidt Hissrich who wrote for the Marvel TV shows The Defenders and Daredevil, as well as the political drama The West Wing has joined the team. Officially however, this hasn’t been confirmed by team heading up the Show’s production.
According to Variety, Lauren will also serve as the series Executive producer, as well as the program’s showrunner. As of right now, there is no news who will be playing the mutated fighter, Geralt.
“Andrzej Sapkowski has created a rich and memorable world, at once magical and familiar,” said Erik Barmack, Netflix Vice President, international series. “We couldn’t be more excited about bringing Netflix members around the world.” “I’m thrilled that Netflix will be doing an adaptation of my stories, staying true to the source material and the themes that I have spent over thirty years writing,” said Sapkowski. “I’m excited about our efforts together, as well as the team assembled to shepherd these characters to life.”
Polish company, Platige Films will head up the series production. While you may not know of them you’ve definitely seen the studio’s work, they’ve created iconic trailers such as The Witcher 3’s The Trial and cinematics for Halo 5: Guardians.
