Yesterday, Lab Zero Games launched an Indiegogo campaign to raise enough money to bring a DLC character to Skullgirls. Less than 24 hours later, the campaign had already reached its goal of $150,000, so fans can rest assured that new character Squigly will make it to the game.
According to the video that explained the campaign and the breakdown of costs, the team was already working on Squigly when they were laid off. So this is less a case of jumping on the crowd-funding bandwagon and more just those who feel responsible for the Skullgirls brand wanting to ensure that fans get to see what they were working on. Naturally, they were thrilled when the campaign reached its goal so soon after launch:
"Wow.
When we set out to do this, we had no idea if this would work. People told us that $150k in 30 days would be impossible, but, thanks to you, we’ve accomplished that in under 24 hours.
We are truly humbled and honored by your support, and can’t wait to get Squigly into the game. We couldn’t have done this without you!"
The campaign currently stands at $205,645, so the team has revealed two more characters – Leduc, and Ileum – that will join the cast of characters to be voted on by the community, one of which will join the game if the campaign hits $600,000. With 29 days still to go on the campaign, it's not much of a stretch to believe that they'll receive enough pledges to make it.
